The Incredible Machine
Limited Capacity seats available

Due to unforseen circumstances, this class could not be presented at CAMfire. The class will instead be presented as a Webinar on March 23rd, 2017. Details and registration can be found here:

As an eighth grader, I took a “Computers” elective, which entailed typing exercises and unsupervised game-play. One of my favorite games was “The Incredible Machine". Players are given a tray of objects and tools to build mousetrap-like contraptions to accomplish simple tasks. I discovered pinball bumpers and tiny little people and as a morbid teen, realized I could make an enclosure of bumpers, fill it with the people, and when I hit “Go” on my “Incredible Machine”. The poor pawns would bounce around until they were all lying flat. While an underappreciated concept in my teenage mind, the game represented automation of tasks. In business applications, we often reference the word “workflow” when describing different processes. Software automation truly is the incredible machine in database applications.

Utility Management 101 – Avoid Costly Mistakes

Proper management of water, electric and gas for your community can simultaneously promote conservation, reduce annual expenses and increase your property value. Do you pay for your resident’s utility expenses? Is energy de-regulated in your state? Do you know the state regulations regarding utility billing programs for your community? What is your community’s recovery rate? Do you or your management audit your municipal bills? Do you track market rates for energy commodities to reduce your bills? This overview will discuss changing regulations affecting utility cost recovery, staff education about billing programs, appropriate language, integrations with management software, and emerging technologies to help capture leakage as well as usage.

Utilities are a very hot topic, as they are typically the #1 or #2 highest line item expense for community owners and typically the owners have little control over this item. Our educational piece will discuss changing regulations, emerging technologies and best practices in the industry.
